I'm a big fan of Samurai so heres my two cents. Originally, the Samurai were incredibly honorable, this was before they essential became tools for the shogunate. And even after they did, for the most part, they continued to be honorable people, but like most who are given as much power as the Samurai were, it went to their heads and they became corrupt. As for the ninjas, i don't know too much about them, but by Samurai codes, they were the lowest of the low when it comes to honor, but then again, ninjas may have had their own code of honor. Their whole fighting style was centered around killing people without even being noticed, and use this to scare people into obeying the various lords of feudal japan. The Samurai were meant to be the guys you fought openly on the battlefield, and their extreme skill in straight combat was meant to scare enemies into submission. Essentially, they were two completely opposite tools with the same person: Scare the enemies into submission. Okay so that turned into something more like 6 cents but whatever. . .
the samurai were deffinetly very honorable, and they were not mercenaries because they did not go against their code, if some samurai did then they are the mercenaries and they are no longer have the title to be called mercenaries.
The ninjas were considered dishonorable because the dealt death in the night. Being associated with night and the dark automatically makes it hard to get a decent reputation, but then they killed people without giving them a warning or fair fight. Don't get me wrong, ninja's are pretty freaking awesome, but that's hardly honorable.
Probably everyone who has posted a comment on top of me is a nerd. Why are people talking about if Samurai or Ninja were mercenaries? even if they are who cares , we don`t need nerds typing a whole SA on who is the mercenary , all who posted aove me about samurai suck my dick

The ninja had plenty of honor. All they did was kill for money. But sometimes, they had more honor than the samurai did themselves.
Besides, ninja are more fun to have in anime than samurai are.
samurai weren't mercenaries, ninjas were made for assassinations. the two started to design all moves for fighting the other.
