Actually, it happens during the buu saga while vegeta was dead from self-destructing to defeat majin buu and goku was dead from the Cell saga. They didn't put into the series directly because it was a movie: "Fusion Reborn". It was gogeta's debut. (Vegeta did not like it one bit)
i think somebody already explained this in another post but vegito is when they use the potara earrings and gogeta is when they do the fusion dance. 2nd, the movie fusion reborn makes no sense cause in the movie if it were after vegeta tried to destroy fat buu then buu would still be terrorizing earth and he's not in the movie. so, in theory that's when it should take place and goku and vegeta should already know the fusion dance when old kai offers the earrings but he says u guys won't have time to learn it. so, the only logical explanation is a far off dimension or alternate time line or some crap like that. lol!
no they become SS4 Gogeta. lol. Gogeta's so awesome, but he's overconfident. It always happens in DBZ like this. The character becomes uber powerful too confident so the dont finish off the villan in time so the villan starts to own. Examples: Cell, Frieza (sort of), Buu, OS.
